When using my Windows 10 computer for anything other than Ableton, I have to use the MME/DirectX drivers, and when using Ableton, I have to use ASIO. It's a mild inconvenience that I have to change that setting in Ableton's Preferences multiple times per day. · MME/DirectX is only made for software that need to process one simple stereo file generally for playback. For everything else you should use an ASIO driver on Windows. And yes, the latency is much better, but also the overall performance and sound. I've struggled a lot with latency and my Focusrite 2i2, until today I accidentally switched the "Driver Type" under the "Audio Device" section under "Preferences" from ASIO to MME/Direct X and this eliminated my latency. I'm curious why this is. I don't fully understand the reasons why ASIO works better than MME/Direct X.
